ROUSH Road Racing Team Daytona Test & Preview

Cars Testing at Daytona 2013In just a few short weeks, the ROUSH Performance road racing team will be heading to Daytona to kick off the 2013 season of the Grand-Am Continental Tire Series.  Earlier this month, the team participated in the practice session run by the series at Daytona to dial in their cars, crew, and drivers.  The team will consist of two full-time cars, the No. 51 driven by Shelby Blackstock and Joey Atterbury and the No. 61 driven by Billy Johnson and Jack Roush Jr.  Also running with the team at Daytona will be Roly Falgueras in the No. 49 Mustang.

ROUSH Testing Daytona 2013“It was great to be back in the car and to get some seat time,” says Jack Roush Jr.  Jack had to sit out of the end of the 2012 season after sustaining an injury during practice at Laguna Seca last September.  “I’ve been working hard to regain the strength and mobility of my left arm, and I’m eager to be back racing at the end of the month.  After running over 300 miles on the track in practice at the Daytona test [earlier this month], I don’t see any problems for our program heading into this season.”

Billy Johnson and Jack Roush Jr. have been teamed up in the No. 61 ROUSH Mustang since June of 2009.  Their first win came later that same year at Miller Motorsports Park.  All told the team has earned 8 wins and 21 podiums.

51 ROUSH Mustang Shelby and Joey“It was great to get back on track for the practice at Daytona to begin the 2013 season,” says Joey Atterbury, co-driver of the No. 51 Mustang.  “Getting the car up to speed during the test days was crucial.  Shelby Blackstock and myself are looking forward to bringing out the full potential of the car and working closely with our teammate’s, Jack Roush Jr and Billy Johnson, to fight for a championship.”

The team has had great success at this track in the past and is looking forward to start the 2013 on a high note.  As you may recall, the team won the pole with the No. 51 Mustang (at the time driven by Shelby Blackstock and Jade Buford) at Daytona in 2012 and won the race with the No. 61 Mustang driven by Billy Johnson and Jack Roush Jr.

The No. 61 Mustang is sponsored by ROUSH Performance, Gary Yeomans Ford Lincoln, Kooks Custom Headers, PWR, BMRSGoPro, USANA and Mechanix Wear.  The No. 51 Mustang is sponsored by Starstruck.  The No. 49 Mustang is sponsored by Micasa Ford.

The Grand-Am Continental Tire Series 2013 season opener will take place at Daytona International Speedway at 1:45pm on Friday January 25th.
