6. What are my purchase options?

If you're interested in purchasing a ROUSH Propane F-150 fuel system, you can go about purchasing and installing in one of two ways:
  • Purchase ROUSH Liquid Propane Injection conversion kits through your local Ford Dealership and have them install.
  • Have a ROUSH Ford Dealer send your trucks to ROUSH in Livonia, Michigan. The dealer would coordinate with the ROUSH Regional Manager for the area, and the end customer would pay transportation both ways.

10. Can I order the Toroidal tank as an install kit?

Yes, but ROUSH would have to perform the installation for you. Please note that this involves shipping the trucks to ROUSH, and would require the constumer to pay for shipping (both ways) and for the installation itself.

11. Does the ROUSH Propane system affect Horsepower, Torque, and Towing Capacity?

No, the ROUSH system has been designed and engineered to provide minimal operating changes from the original vehicle. Horsepower, Torque, and Towing capability are unchanged. Starting the truck also uses the same one touch start system as gasoline, but may require additional time between key activation and start of cranking to provide liquid fuel to the injectors.

[

12. Does the Propane system affect Fuel Economy?

Fuel economy with propane is about 1 to 4 mpg less, depending on truck size, bed size, and axle ratio. The best fuel economy can be found with Regular Cab / 4X2 / XL / 6.5ft Bed / 3.31 Rear Axle F-150s, while the least fuel economy is typically experience with Super Cab / 4X4 / FX4 / 8ft Bed / 4.10 Rear Axle F-150s.

13. Does Propane pollute less that gasoline and diesel?

Yes, Propane is an approved alternative fuel listed in both the Clean Air Act of 1990 and the National Energy Policy Act of 1992 and 2005. As compared to gasoline and diesel engines, Propane-fueled vehicles produce significantly lower amounts of:
  • Particulates
  • Carbon Monoxide
  • Nitrogen Oxide
  • Hydrocarbon
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Propane also cuts emissions of toxins and carcinogens such as benzene and toluene by up to 96 percent as compared to gasoline, and per pound of fuel consumed, propane emits less than half as much carbon dioxide as coal and almost no sulfur dioxide.

14. How do I fill the fuel tank?

The fuel filler is located in the same position as the gasoline filler, and there is an automatic fill stop system that doesn't require observation of escaping gas for operation.

[

15. Is any special fuel required?

Yes, motor vehicles require the use of HD-5 propane that has road taxes added to the price.

16. Can I add additional propane tanks?

The ROUSH Liquid Propane Injection system uses computer monitoring of the various parts of the system that don’t accept more than one tank on the vehicle.

18. How long does it take to fuel a ROUSH Liquid Propane Injected F-150?

The fill rate of liquid propane is similar to that of gasoline dispensed from a service station pump.

19. How do you start the truck?

The truck requires no special process to start, but takes a few more seconds than a gasoline system to begin running. Simply insert the key, turn all the way to the "start" position like a gasoline system. Then wait approximately 4 seconds, and the truck will start.

20. What is Propane?

Propane occurs naturally during domestic oil refining and natural gas processing, supplying about 90% of U.S. propane requirements. Because it's 270 times more compact as a liquid than a gas, it's highly economical to store and transport. In part as a result of this, propane is more widely available than E-85, with over 2,500 Propane retail outlets available around the country to fill your ROUSH Propane truck.

21. Is Propane domestically produced?

Yes, over 90% of domestic supplies of propane are from natural gas processing and petroleum refining here in the U.S. Of the remaining 10%, 7% comes from Canada.

22. Is Propane safe?

Yes, stringent codes and regulations applicable to the propane industry have led to a remarkable safety record. Still, the propane industry is investing and working to improve safety. Of note on safety are the following facts:
  • New propane cylinders include a device that shuts off the filling process when the tank reaches 80% capacity.
  • Tanks on propane vehicles are constructed from carbon steel and are 20 times more puncture resistant than typical gasoline or diesel tanks.
  • Propane engine fuel systems are fitted with safety devices and shut-off valves that function automatically in case of fuel line rupture.

23. Is there a weight difference between gasoline and liquid propane?

Yes, propane weighs approximately 1.86 pounds less per gallon than gasoline. Whereas one gallon of gasoline weighs 6.1 lbs, one gallon of liquid propane weighs just 4.24 lbs.
