Livonia , Mich. – Roush Performance Products, the street performance division of the Roush Industries conglomerate, has been developing slowly and carefully for the past eight years, according to Roush Enterprises President and CEO Evan D. Lyall.
"Jack Roush has always been committed to the pursuit of technical achievement. The success he has achieved as a businessman has allowed him to realize the things he wants to achieve technically. That theme is being applied to Roush Performance Products."
"We have an engineering talent that rivals any of the original equipment manufacturers in Detroit , a group of engineers that has been accumulating over a 20 year period. If you combine that with the racing heritage we have, dating from Jack Roush's NHRA Pro Stock drag racing to the start of our road racing in 1984, our entry into Winston Cup in 1988, and our current success in Winston Cup, Busch Grand National and Craftsman Truck, that represents the creation of a pretty good brand. We intend to take our engineering and racing talent, and that brand, and compete in the marketplace."
Lyall said that Roush Performance started in a small way in six years ago, like many others, by creating parts for the Mustang. "We started out with a new induction system for the 5.0-liter Mustang V-8, and then we figured out that we needed to develop our brand as a tuner and then as a builder of fully engineered vehicles. The Roush Performance Products Mustangs are really exciting for us because it is a culmination of all of our engineering capabilities. It is a fully engineered vehicle."
The cars are built using a complete OEM-style product development cycle," said Lyall. "We've made an investment in the vehicle for the calibration, testing, and all the things you need to do the job right. I think we'll raise the bar quite a bit in terms of what's out there, and place it at a level that's never been seen before."
"In terms of investment, this is the largest and most complex program that we have ever done. The Roush mission statement commits us to offer the highest quality automotive performance products to the aftermarket industry, backed by an unparalleled sales network and distribution channels, and after-sales support."
Roush Performance Products will continue to offer the entire range of Mustang packages, from the Stage 1 and Stage 2 models for the current Mustang and Cobra, to the Classic, Stage 3 and 380R. Lyall says, "We will continue to offer those products to meet different price points, and all of them will benefit from what we have learned in racing and in the development of the Stage 3 vehicle."
"Our vision for Roush Performance Products is that we will seamlessly blend 30 years of successful Roush Racing Heritage, the formidable engineering and manufacturing skills of Roush Industries, along with the marketing, sales and service of Roush Performance Products to establish the Roush brand in the performance aftermarket."
