This was just one of the many accolades attributed to the 6th annual ROEA Michigan Round-Up held this year in Livonia August 12-16. Organized by Gary Burdell, ROEA Co-director Northeast Division, ROEA members from Canada and the United States gathered together for a fun-filled and exciting event packed with several extra surprises.
Highlights included a visit to Willow Run Airport where members were given a private tour of Jack Roush’s hanger and P-51 Mustang airplanes. While there, members presented Jack with a very special digital photo frame collage that incorporated a slideshow showcasing all the attending members with their cars in appreciation for all that he has done. Jack personally thanked each member and then began preparations for a flight in his P-51 Mustang “Gentlemen Jim.” Members watched in awe as Jack took off and flew back over the hanger dipping the P-51’s wings in salute several times.
ROEA members also co-hosted the largest car show to date with over 187 registered cars in attendance in conjunction with the ROUSH® Automotive Museum open house and Roush Fenway Racing driver autograph session. Members had the opportunity to have their cars signed by Jack Roush and memorabilia signed by Jack Roush, Susan Roush-McClenaghan, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, and Erik Darnell.
Members also ran the quarter mile in their ROUSH® mustangs while at Milan Dragway and drive their cars on the 1.5-mile road course while at Waterford Hills Road Racing Track. They also attended special ROUSH® Performance guided factory tours and ROUSH® Industries composite factory tours. Some members also attended the “Carfax 400 Sprint Cup Race” at Michigan International Speedway where they were given a special “behind the scenes” garage tour before the race began.
Early Saturday morning, ROEA members rose at the crack of dawn and caravanned together to attend the events being held on “Mustang Alley” in the city of Ferndale. Members were given special antenna flags and parked together along with the other 500+ mustangs that were part of the event. Members were able to take their cars out and “cruise” Woodward Avenue. To our surprise Rutledge Woods from Speed Channel’s “NASCAR Race Day” and “NASCAR on Speed” television shows stopped by the ROEA tent and chatted for an hour with members about their ROUSH® mustangs.
Departing members left saying it was the best Round-Up event ever and are already looking forward to next year’s event.
