"Jack Roush says he will use one of his new 427R Mustangs to travel around the country looking after his NASCAR teams. Now, that could be nothing more than a public relations statement. But after spending a week with Roush's latest creation, we'd be thrilled to spend a whole lot more time with this car ourselves.
"The 427R package is anchored by a Roushcharged 4.6-liter 3-valve V-8. It uses an M90 Roots-style supercharger with Eaton internals, but is designed, assembled and calibrated by the engineers at Roush to the tune of 435 bhp at 6450 rpm and 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 3750 rpm. It's an absolute blast to use, amazingly smooth and linear in its delivery of power, with only a hint of supercharger whine at high rpm. What you do hear a lot of, though, is one of the gnarliest V-8 growls ever created, courtesy of Roush's optional $710 exhaust system. The burbling and popping on deceleration are pure joy."
