The ROUSH® Road Crew, the new club for owners and fans of ROUSH® products, held their very first function on March 6-7 in Southern Florida. By all counts, the “Florida Fun Kickoff” lived up to its name and a great time was had everyone who attended.
The first of the two days was spent at the GRAND-AM races at Homestead-Miami Speedway. A dozen cars met at the hotel and caravanned to the racetrack, an impressive sight to see for those on the Florida Turnpike, and more than a little intimidating for the toll collectors who faced the roar of the Mustangs.
There was a great collection of ROUSH® vehicles including several 427R® Mustangs, a couple of Stage 3™ Mustangs, 428R™, P-51A®, 540RH™ and a Stage 1™ F-150.
Once at the racetrack the cars parked together in a corral in the infield, and had a chance to head into the garage to meet the ROUSH® Performance team drivers Jack Roush Jr. and Billy Johnson. As a surprise to the 21 RRC members that attended the event, Jack Roush himself was on hand and spoke to the group, posed for photos and signed autographs along with his drivers.
Members learned why the No. 61 ROUSH® Mustang had its pole-winning qualifying time disallowed, and just how fast the car really was. Once the green flag flew, RRC members cheered as Jack and Billy stormed from the back of the field to win the event, and give Jack Roush his 400th career win.
Just minutes after Jack and Billy captured the checkered flag the RRC members had a chance to drive their own cars on the track, going through the NASCAR oval in Turn 3 and 4 and under the flag stand on the front stretch. Once through the infield section the ride was over after one lap, though everyone was more than willing to go on for a few more passes.
After watching a bit of the GRAND-AM Rolex Series race, several members then headed out for dinner and swapping of tales.
The next day several members met in the morning and cruised up the Florida coast to Key Biscayne. A stop at the Cape Florida lighthouse gave everyone a chance to exercise by climbing up the 108 stairs of the preserved historical site, and for their efforts received a great view of Miami from the top. While there, a group of French tourists stopped to admire the ROUSH® Mustangs, and of course, wanted to hear the engines fire up.
As the cruise continued up the coast a stop on the beach was made for photos. The day ended with lunch at an outdoor restaurant overlooking million dollar homes and even more expensive yachts.
The weather was picture perfect, the enthusiasm was high, and there will be plenty of stories for those that missed out on this first club event. Apparently it was so well received that people are asking to do it again next year (so the pressure will be on Jack and Billy to repeat their victory as well).
Now that the first club event is completed the tone has been set. We’ve got several more ROUSH® Road Crew events are planned across the country, so make plans to come out and enjoy some great people and have some fun. For information on the ROUSH® Road Crew, visit www.ROUSHperformance.com/club.
We’ll have several photos from the event to post shortly.
